Two people are hospitalized after a Long Island Rail Road train collided with a car.
The incident happened in Manorville, at the Wading River Road crossing, at around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 30.
An eastbound LIRR train was traveling from Ronkonkoma to Greenport when it struck a vehicle on the tracks just east of the Yaphank Station, an MTA spokesperson told Daily Voice.
A photo shared to Facebook by the account LI Fire Buff showed a white vehicle with significant damage, including its roof sheared off, lying in a grassy area near the tracks.
Two people in the vehicle suffered injuries and were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately publicized.
Between 30 and 40 passengers were on the train at the time and there were no reports of injuries. Affected passengers were taken to Greenport via bus.
Rail service was halted for nearly 90 minutes while emergency crews responded to the scene.
